On April 18, 2020, a Washington Post article inaccurately reported about the COVID-19 rapid IgM & IgG antibody testing Dr. West has available. The article erroneously identifies Dr.West as a co-founder of Ms.Medicine (she is not) and misidentified Ms.Medicine as a non-profit. Ms.Medicine is a national network of concierge primary care providers focusing on women’s health, of which she is affiliated. Additionally, she is not soliciting asymptomatic individuals. Her website and communication with her patients note that the test is not a perfect test, and she offers it for patients who wish to be tested and for whom the information would be helpful (healthcare workers, first responders, those who may have had symptoms previously and were not able to get tested, etc.) The article inaccurately states she was given tests; she purchased tests to offer them to patients in her practice, and she provides the test free for current patients and for a fee for non-member patients. While the data being collected is being provided to an IRB-approved study being conducted in Cincinnati, OH, it is not the sole reason she purchased tests. She recognizes that accurate information about COVID-19 is critical, and regrets any misinformation that was shared. The online version of the article has now been corrected.
