A Letter From Dr. Jennifer Kostacos

I’m Dr. Jennifer Kostacos and am excited to have opened Premier Medicine and Wellness in the Horsham area. In office, I hope to create a welcoming environment where patients can feel at ease and comfortable. Navigating the healthcare system can be stressful, especially if one doesn’t feel well or is concerned about her health. Access is key to my practice, and I want to make sure my patient's concerns are addressed quickly, even on weekends and evenings. The last thing anyone needs when not feeling well is to leave a message and wait to hear back, sometimes the next day or longer. And the peace of mind of knowing your doctor is available if you need it allows you to live more in the present without worry.

Before my decision to open my own practice, I was a house-call doctor. I provided primary care medicine to mostly homebound patients in Philadelphia. What drew me to the position was the opportunity to spend as much time as needed with each patient. Nobody told me I had to complete the visit in 15 minutes, or that there was a room full of patients waiting to be seen. I had the chance to really get to know each of my patients and their families and form meaningful relationships. Earning the trust of a patient is my greatest honor and one I take very seriously. The only way to have a truly successful partnership is with respect, compassion, and trust. Building these takes time and unfortunately, enough time is not something that most physicians have.

I was immediately drawn to the mission of Ms. Medicine: to provide personalized, comprehensive, evidence-based care to women. I truly believe that women deserve more when it comes to healthcare: more access, time, specialized primary care, and education so that they are empowered to take charge of their health and wellness. Ideally, a healthcare provider is a partner in the journey, someone to walk alongside, guide and educate, and support patients in every possible way. I can’t imagine practicing medicine any other way.

Evidence-based care means keeping up with the latest research in order to provide the most current advice and treatment to patients. This can mean attending conferences, reviewing guidelines that are provided by experts in specific medical fields, or actively participating in medical organizations and collaborating with other physicians. I am a member of the North American Menopause Society and recently took the exam to become a certified menopause physician. I also attend conferences about twice a year and engage in weekly discussions with women’s health colleagues. My utmost commitment is to stay as knowledgeable as possible because any decision in a patient’s care can only be made in the context of knowing all the options, risks, and benefits and relaying those effectively so a plan can be made together.

Although a specialist in women’s health, I welcome all patients into my practice. I will never fault someone for not having kept on top of things like exercise, diet, or health care screenings; rather I will meet her in the middle and see what we can do together to take steps toward better health, knowing that we all feel better when we are taking care of ourselves. Comprehensive care means we will address every aspect of wellness, from sleep to mood to stress. Good health encompasses all of these and more, and my goal is to take strides to optimize each of these with my patients. Yes, these things take time. But that is what I offer: the time and access to address all of my patients’ needs and maximize their health and wellness. I hope you will join me on this journey!
